The Colo-NESCO Community School Board is announcing that due to retirement, the position of Superintendent/Elementary Principal will be available July 1, 2021. The district finances show an increasing unspent budget authority and a solvency ratio of 25.2% in 2017. Tax rates for the district have been reduced from 2017-2019, and Colo-NESCO student enrollment has remained steady for the past four years. Colo-NESCO has a voter-approved PPEL, and the district has recently passed a $13 million bond referendum for improvements at each attendance center. Colo-NESCO Community Schools boasts a 100% graduation rate.

Hickory Grove Park is the largest and most popular of the conservation board's parks. This 445-acre multiple-use recreational area southwest of Colo contains a 98-acre lake stocked with largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, channel catfish, and grass carp.
Dakins Lake Park and Campground is a newly expanded 103-acre park located just north of Zearing in northeast Story County. It has a 20-acre lake stocked with bass, bluegill, channel catfish, crappie, and perch.
Twin Anchors Campground has plenty of sites with activities for the whole family. From great fishing and kayaking to a petting zoo you will have plenty to do on the site.
Ames and Iowa State University is a short 20-mile drive from Colo, Iowa. Downtown Des Moines is 41 miles from Colo.
